Bali offers stunning infinity pools. This one is new in Seminyak and we took the opportunity to do a photoshoot. Here my daughter and I are making an effort to stand in the Yoga tree pose in synchrony. We had in my wife a very patient photographer.
2015 has been a strange year for me. Many wonderful moments like celebrating my daughter’s sweet 16 party with many of her friends, the gentleman dinner with my son in the Pieterskerk in Leiden, winning the Open Dutch Championships sailing again and organizing the European Championships in Muiden for the Star class.
Overall it was a year of transition but not completely clear from what to where. Facilitating the workshop in Brazil about Love and Forgiveness was another highlight, including everything that followed in Oxford, France and the BK Call of the Time dialogue in India where I deepened my meditation practice. Together with clients I realized a new level of depth in our dialogues and the impact we were having on societal and business issues.
But I felt it harder to connect to the beauty of the world. When I went a day into nature in the Dutch Dunes I stumbled on a small Bambi. I was pleasantly surprised, kept quiet and sat down waiting for her to wake up. After a while she stumbled to her feet and fell down again. I realized she was left alone by her mother to die. Sitting next to her might have given some comfort in her last moments, I told myself but I wasn’t convinced. Bernie Glasman calls it ‘bearing witness’. Bearing witness to what is happening in the world. If you’re able to witness, compassionate action wil follow. My new year resolutions are to be able to witness even better. With playfulness.
