The program ‘Ali B Op Volle Toeren’ is something special. Feb 23, I posted already a link: ‘The highest potential of diversity.’ I used the video for police officers who were brainstorming about diversity and how to realize the potential of diversity. The answer is of course: inclusion and these videos are an example of this.

We realized that you need a certain format. A format in which people are ‘forced to shine.’ It’s an example of the quote of Goethe:

“If we treat people as they are, we make them worse.  If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming.”

In this program they have found a format to bring people together in a way that they start to shine. Wonderful. It’s for me the same with Theory U. Of course is leadership important but even more I think it is about creating circumstances that people start to connect at another level. Ask people to do something that they usually don’t dare to do and at the same time create a holding environment where you (and they) feel at ease.

In Ali’s part of the song he explains the personal part of Theory U: feel your emotions, your hate, your doubts, see your own shadow part, acceptance, take a pits stop, love. Inspiring. You feel the discomfort (and longing at the same time) of Henny Vrienten when he talks abput the depth of the emotions of Winne and Ali B. We -white Dutch- are not used to express our true emotions so openly.
